4K TV Prices
By Jack Burden, Senior Reviewer
One thing is for sure. The new 4K TVs hitting the market today are not going to be cheap. They will certainly be sold as luxury market items to the rich and famous. The new 84” Sony 4K TV is purportedly being sold for between $21,000 to $25,000. While 8 million pixels is a lot – roughly 4 times an HD how does that same difference compare with price. A top end Sharp 80 inch LED TV (LC-80LE844U) costs just shy of $4000. Multiply that by 4 and we come up with $16,000 – which is closer than we thought. Now there is an upgraded speaker system in the new Sony 4K TV so add a little there. I guess you are paying a premium of $4000 to $6000 for the 4K TV if you want to price it strictly on a resolution basis.
LG's new 84” offering is not a lot better. This 4K UHD TV is $19,000 which brings your price per pixel down a bit. If you purchase one of these new TVs, please send me an invite to view it.
