Sony seeks to Produce Transformational TV products in the near Future
Sony CEO Howard Stringer spoke at length at a press conference recently about Sony's need to innovate in the TV market in order to better compete and become more profit from the TV manufacturing portion of its business and also as a company. Sony has lost market share and been unprofitable for years in the TV market. Sony's CEO continued that the company is working on something transformational - an innovation that will drive interest and profitability similar to the success scene by Apple in established businesses like the cell phone. Though he did not state the innovative aspects of the new TVs, he made it quite clear that Sony is in the business to stay and is spending heavily on TV R&D. He made several references to Apple in the talk and stated, "I spent the last five years building a platform so I can compete against Steve Jobs," Mr. Stringer said. "It's finished, and it's launching now."
