Picture Quality Characteristics of the Samsung UN46D6000 LED TV

The UN46D6000 scored very well in our HD picture quality testing category with a 9 out of 10. This surprised some of our staff because the TV is not at the top end of the price scale. The reasons for this scoring were 1) it had a great picture depth. 2) The TV has a clear coat screens that gives a nice color hue to images. 3) The clear coat also provides for good black levels 4) Samsung's edge lit LED backlighting is very bright and powerful on the D6000 series as well as others. 5) Edges are sharp and clear with little blurring especially in HD.

The weaknesses of the picture quality in the 46D6000 are side angle viewing quality – contrast degrades at more than 25 degrees off center. Another oft pointed out fault of LED TV screens in general is screen light uniformity. Turning down the backlight when in a darker room environment will greatly assist with this issue – in fact to the point that you will not even notice it if you are straight on viewing. The screen uniformity issue is characterized by more brightness towards the left and right edges of the screen and is visible mostly when viewing from side angles with the backlight control turned up.

It's not often we give a TV in the middle tier such a score on HD viewing quality so take a good look at this one as a potential candidate.
