2012 LG Models

LG 55" 55LM9600
The 55LM9600 has very impressive picture quality with saturated blacks and eye popping whites and brightness. This is due in part to the Nano full array local dimming but also the internal video board de-interlacing and processing.

LG 55" 55LM8600
One of the highlighted features of this TV is the LED local dimming feature. However, this is not true backlit local dimming but in fact edge lit LED manipulated local dimming. The feature may be turned off and on so it's easy to test the effectiveness of the feature. We actually ended up turning it off most of the time due to some loss of dark shadow detail when using it. The picture characteristics of the LM8600 are excellent though with superb clarity, deep blacks and contrast, good color rendition. The only negative we noted was some jittery picture effects from over-processing, not something the average person will notice.

LG 55" 55LM7600
Although the 55LM7600 does not have the premium LED backlighting package with local dimming, 3D content still looks good and color seems just as good on this set as the higher end models form LG for 2012. The 3D picture looks less deep than some of the active shutter 3D TVs on the market for sure. Edges are not as crisp on this TV nor is contrast as pronounced as some. But the excellent color rendition makes up for a lot. There is something to LG's claim that people prefer the colors on it compared to Sony and Samsung.

LG 55" 55LM6700
The LM6700 uses LG's 120Hz TruMotion. In 2012 LG changed the available settings for this feature and it is not something you can turn on or off now. However, the good news is that we did not find a reason to. The feature did not remove background blur in a way that negatively affected the picture quality. In fact, it is a much improved feature and welcome addition now. There was still some judder with slow camera side to side panning, but fast motion sports action was handled easily with the TruMotion 120Hz feature.

LG 55" 55LMG860
The LMG860 has a Standard picture setting option that competes very well with the best picture settings we can come up with even after calibration with our professional equipment, CalPro software and the easily accessible 10 point white balance control on this TV.. While the other settings were off in one way or another, the standard setting retains a realistic color balance that is very pleasing to the eye. Since edges are very soft on this TV, we are not as concerned with decreases the Sharpness setting which controls edge enhancement.

LG 55" 55G2
The G in the model number indicates that this LG LED television is equipped with Google TV along with the standard Smart TV online functionality included in many LG LED TVs. Google TV adds the full Chrome web browser, deep search features and more to your TV bringing the online experience to your living room.

LG 55" 55LM6200
The 55LM6200 differs from the LM6700 series in one respect, it doesn't have the new, ultra-thin bezel design. It is a 1080p, 120Hz LED edge lit LCD panel with Cinema 3D passive 3D and all the Smart TV features of the step up model. If the features interest you but you would like to sacrifice some aesthetics for a lower price then the 55LM6200 will definitely be of interest to you.

LG 55" 55LM5800
The LM5800 series is similar to the LM6200 series above it. It is available in fewer sizes and it does not include the Magic Wand remote control or Smart TV online functionality. It is LED edge lit and includes LG's passive Cinema 3D. This is the lowest line of LG's LED back lit LCD televisions that does have 3D compatibility.

LG 55" 55LS5700
The 55LS5700 is the top tier, non 3D LED television from LG. It is a 1080p, 120Hz LCD panel with LED edge lighting. It has the full Smart TV online suite and the Magic Wand remote control.

LG 55" 55LS4600
The picture quality on this LED from LG is in the middle of the pack for 2012/early 2013. LG has enabled the 55LS4600 with some good picture setting features for such a value oriented TV such as the 120Hz panel for better fast action performance.

2011 LG Models

LG 55" 55LW6500
LG introduced the 55" 55LW6500 passive 3D LED TV at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show, these new televisions combine many new picture features as well as LG's new Smart TV internet TV features.

LG 55" 55LV5500
The 55" 55LV5500 is a 1080p LED TV that includes LG's SmartTV Internet TV feature and the motion sensitive Magic Wand remote. They are 120Hz panels and LG's App Store features over 120 online applications. We were pretty impressed with the LV5500 when we reviewed it this year and definitely enjoyed using the new Magic Wand remote.

LG 55" 55LV3700
The 55" 55LV3700 is a slight step down from the LV5500, it does contain many of the same features as the higher end model but does not inclue the cool new Magic Wand remote though it can be purchased separately. If you plan on using the Smart TV internet feature a lot we would recommend purchasing the motion sensitive remote as it does speed up using the service.

LG 55" 55LK530
LG's new 55" 55LK530 is a flourescent back lit LCD television that offers good picture quality and performance at a value oriented price point. It does feature the full Smart TV online entertainment suite and even includes a web browser.

LG 55" 55LK520
LG's 55" 55LK520 contains all the features of the LK530 but without the internet connectivity. These LCD TVs will come in at a lower price than the LK530 if internet options are not of interest to you.

2010 LG Models

LG 55" 55LE9500
LG's flagship Infinia 55" 55LE9500 is all picture with a barely there 8.5 mm bezel surrounding the LED backlit panel that features LG's TruLED local dimming technology. The LE9500 series is also the first 3D ready line of televisions from LG and is THX certified as well.

LG 55" 55LE8500
The 55" 55LE8500 from LG doesn't have the ultra thin 8.5mm bezel of the LE9500 or the 480Hz processing but it does have all the other features such as local dimming TruLED technology and wireless HD capability.

LG 55" 55LE7500
For 2010 LG brings us the local dimming LED backlit 55" 55LE7500. LG's TruLED local dimming technology will improve contrast and color performance when compared to traditionally backlit LCDs or edge lit LED televisions.

LG 55" 55LE5500
The new for 2010 55" 55LE5500 from LG brings local dimming LED backlighting to smaller sized TVs. The TruLED technology will enhance the performance of the 1080p LCD panel and LG's Picture Wizard will walk you through setting it up for optimum performance.
